Initial Research - Older Generations and the Internet

Within our question, the main concern is how to interest users in uploading their stories, especially those of an older generation. Our initial concerns were the number and frequency of users accessing the internet, and the purposes of their online time, focusing on older generations to see what they were accessing. This would then allow us to further explore and answer the question as strongly as possible.  Upon visiting the official government statistics on internet usage (http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171766_242415.pdf ) it became apparent that whilst internet usage in general is ever increasing, internet non-usage in over-75’s had decreased, meaning that more people in the category had at least used the internet at some point. A recent survey found that generally, the amount of non-users was much higher in over-75’s.

This suggests that in terms of storytelling, it would generally be more difficult for this age group to story tell online because there were less people in this category to do so. Because of this, our main concern when answering the question is overcoming the problem of non-users within the older generations.
